What Is The Difference Between Broad Spectrum Vs. Full Spectrum CBD Oil?

Broad Spectrum Vs Full Spectrum: Which CBD oil is better? Which should you buy? Answers ahead!

CBD oil is a relatively new supplement for health and wellness. Many consumers are taking notice of CBD oil and its “wonder drug” status: It may help ease anxiety , soothe aches and pains, and help with sleep. But not all CBD oil is created equal. Do you know the difference between broad spectrum vs full spectrum CBD? These two types are both widely available to consumers over-the-counter, so how do you know which is best? Which type of CBD oil will work for you? Let’s discuss the different CBD spectrum products, and when each one should be used. But first: What is CBD oil?

What Is CBD Oil?

CBD is short for cannabidiol. Cannabidiols are naturally-occurring compounds in the hemp plant. Along with THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, CBD helps to create feelings of calm and relaxation when the plant is ingested or consumed. But unlike THC, CBD will not get you high. THC contains psychoactive components, which are commonly associated with traditional marijuana use. CBD does not contain these compounds — but it does contribute to stress-release and reduction of tension.

CBD is most-often consumed in an oil form; the plant is processed to produce an oil which is ingested orally. However, as the market grows, consumers may now choose CBD products that can be applied topically (like a balm or salve), powdered and stirred into beverages, or eaten as treats, such as gummies.

Research is still being conducted on the efficacy of CBD  and diseases, ailments, and emotional, mental, and physical issues. But preliminary studies show promise in CBD use for general wellness and in particular, anxiety reduction. This is all exciting news for consumers looking to find natural paths toward health. But does it matter if you choose broad spectrum or full spectrum CBD?

What’s The Difference: Broad Spectrum Vs. Full Spectrum?

There are actually three different types of CBD available to consumers: broad spectrum, full spectrum, and CBD isolate. They typically come with different price tags, and although there is no “best” type of CBD, knowing the variances between them will help you make an educated choice.

First, let’s discuss CBD isolate. This is considered to be the most pure expression of cannabidiol; the average CBD isolate produce is 99% pure. This seems like a positive quality, however, many users prefer full spectrum and broad spectrum products because the cannabidiol works in tandem with other plant-based compounds present, creating a more holistic bodily response.

Full spectrum CBD oil contains all of the hemp’s phytochemicals. Phytochemicals are naturally-occurring plant compounds; these are responsible for giving it color, smell, taste, and other qualities. When you consume a plant-based product with all of its phytochemicals intact, you’re consuming a “whole” version of the food. You may consider it helpful to compare this with eating a whole-grain bread rather than a white bread. Both have benefits, such as keeping you full and providing energy — but as a package deal, the whole-grain bread (and full spectrum CBD) provide more complete delivery of beneficial compounds.

How Is Broad Spectrum CBD Oil Used?

There’s one major consideration to full-spectrum CBD products: Because they contain all of the hemp plant’s phytochemicals, they do contain a small amount of THC. Although the CBD industry is not regulated, consumers can rest assured that the average THC quantity in full-spectrum CBD is under 0.3%. That amount is not enough to elicit feelings of being high, but it may show up in a drug test. Some CBD users with particularly sensitive systems do believe that they are affected by the trace amounts of psychoactive compounds.

Broad spectrum CBD contains almost all of the phytochemicals in the hemp plant, except for THC. Recall that full spectrum does not contain the full amount of THC, but does have trace levels. In the case of broad spectrum CBD, there is 0% THC. Those with THC sensitivity, or who live in areas where THC use is not legal will find broad spectrum products useful. It is most often ingested orally, and may assist in a variety of issues, including pain, sleeplessness, and anxiety.

Which CBD Spectrum Is Best?

There is unfortunately no simple answer to the question of broad spectrum vs. full spectrum CBD oil (not to mention, CBD isolates). Here are a few key points to help you make your decision about which CBD is best for you:

  1. Full spectrum typically carries the highest price point.
  2. Full spectrum contains trace amounts of THC.
  3. Both broad and full spectrum are generally thought to be more effective than CBD isolates. However;
  4. CBD isolates are largely the most affordable option.
